Pic #14

IT'S THURSDAY!!!!

And we all know what that means!!!

IT'S PICTURE DAY!!!

I say PJ will be another martial artist!!

Katie says he is kicking all the time!!!

They've had a great week.

Phillip has been helping Mattie with a school project all week.
It is complete and ready to turn in on Monday.
Grumpy and I aren't allowed to see it until Sunday though.

Mattie also had her GT Showcase this week
She walked Grumpy and Phillip through three projects.
Katie and I took pictures.
It was a great night.

This weekend, we don't have anything planned

Except rest.

We all deserve it,

Especially Frank.

He's had several late nights this week.

Until next week

God Bless!!

WOW Time Flies

This morning I fixed Mattie breakfast and packed her lunch for the last time this school year.

I can't believe that she is going to be a second grader come tomorrow!!!!

Am I really old enough to have a second grade granddaughter?!

This is her the first day of first grade -

And this was just last week -

She is still an amazing little girl with a bright future. She loves school and looks forward to where she will be next year.

Love her so much.

And she has nursed me right through this cancer and has learned the lesson too, that no matter what life throws at us, as long as we keep God number one, that...

Everything is going to be OK.

Until next time,
God bless.

First Day of Kindergarten 08.22.11

Seriously! Where has the summer gone?! It has been over a month since I posted about our trip the US Open and I am not sure where that month went.

Whatever happened to it, it's gone, and today was the first day of school for our Mattie May. Oops! I forgot! She's just Mattie now! Anyway, it seems to me as if this is the child that should be starting school, not her daughter.
Last night we did well and got to bed at a decent hour, knowing we had to get Mattie up about 45 minutes earlier than what she is used to. Slept well and ready to get the day started.

Some where in this bed is a five year old ready to start school.
Still not sure where she is, but this is where I left her last night.

That kind of looks like a child snuggled up there!
There she is, under all that hair! Oh My!
I know a lot of people have special things they fix for breakfast for the first day of school, but I just leave it up to her. I was ready for just about everything, but all she wanted were chocolate muffins, a banana, and milk. Not the best breakfast ever, but what she wanted. I'll insist on a little better in the morning.

We finally got teeth brushed, clothes on, and all that hair tamed!
She is ready to go.
She choose this outfit, even the knee socks. This child loves knee socks!!
And those things are hard to find for those little legs!
She wanted dog ears!
So I did the best I could with the hair she had!

A pose for Grumpy and Mommie.
Posing at school for Mommie to take her picture.
One last picture with Mommie.
My two favorite girls in the world!
Miss Cagle, her teacher.
She found her locker and her desk and was ready to go.
She said she had a great day today, and she even had homework!
She loves having homework!
How long will that last.

As best we can tell,
the most exciting thing they did today was make gingerbread man
(and women)
cookies,

And they disappeared out of the oven just like in the book!
They looked all over the school campus and couldn't find them!

I took me awhile
(with a little help from my cousin)
to see what the teachers were doing.
Isn't that a cute way to teach these kids
their way around the new to them campus?!

I can't wait to see if they find those cookies tomorrow!

And this kid...
this is how she looked after a full day at school
and an afternoon at karate!
That poor white shirt may never be the same!

I hope all of you had a great first day of school. I know not all of you still have students at home, but in some way or another, we are all connected to someone starting school!

God Bless you all!

Her Last First is Her First Last

Do you remember this picture?
It was posted just nine short months ago.
It was her first day of school- Pre-K.
Four years old.

Well since then, I have shared many firsts first with you -

First day of karate
First day of soccer
First Ranger baseball game
First school field trip
First soccer goal
First school pictures
First belt test
First time being a flower girl
First karate demo
First karate tournament
First letter from Santa
First school party
First plane ride
First trip to Disney
First puppy
First time with the flu
First date night
First sparring trophy
First pedicure
First breaking trophy
First talent show
First kata trophy
First first place trophy
First article in the newspaper.

Whew! I'm tired reliving all that!

Well today was her first last day of school. Yesterday they had graduation and today was the final day. She was happy but sad at the same time. She is ready for a short break, but she was really sad to tell Ms. Torres good-bye. She is retiring this year, but even with that, Mattie May still wouldn't see her any more because she will be at a different school next year.
She will be at either Austin or Taylor, we are just waiting to see if her transfer was approved. This year was spent at a school with children all her age. Next year, there will be Kindergarten through fifth grade at which ever school she attends. She will also miss the class room. This child loves to learn. But we have plenty of things for her to learn this summer.
She will also be attending karate camp every day.
She will have so much fun.
They work on karate but they also do fun things like swim, go to the zoo, go to movies, and yes there may even be a trip to six flags in there!

So here is her first last day of school picture!
Where did those dogs ears go?!

God Bless!

First, First time at Karate

This post is a few weeks behind, but I just cant seem to catch up! It's as if we have something to do every night. But I love it! It is so nice to have a little one to chase around again. It's been a long time since Katie was this little!

When Mattie May started Pre-K, that meant that she couldn't go to her day care any longer. They don't pick up from school, so Katie had to find someone that would. She had seen advertised that one of the martial arts schools had an after school program so she called.

We were a bit nervous at first. None of us had ever been in any type of martial arts. When Katie and I went in to get her signed up, she was allowed to go into the class that was going on to see if she would like it. Let's just say she did! She didn't want to leave!

And we love it too! When she gets home she is hungry so she eats her supper. She is stinky from the 2 1/2 hours she has spent at the DOJO and is ready for a bath. And she is so tired so is usually asleep before we make it through one chapter of her book! So it works out great for us all!

Enjoy the pictures. Since I don't know much about what it is she does, I will let them speak for themselves!

God Bless!

Her First First Day of School

Oh, wow! I can't believe it! My sweet little grandbaby started school yesterday! Pre-K. She is not old enough to go to Kindergarten but she did qualify for Pre-K. We were so excited! She LOVES all her teachers/caregivers at day care, but she was ready for the classroom. Unlike her momma, I believe this child will love school. So through the tears and tissue, we made it through!

At first, she didn't want to get out of bed, but when we reminded her what day it was,

she was up and smiling, ready to go!

She usually just has a "snack" at home and eats breakfast at daycare.
No more of that! Breakfast before school starts now!

After breakfast, she got dressed, we fixed her hair (in her signature dog ears no less!), brushed teeth and ready to start the day.
I love the "Elvis" smile in this one!

Buckled in the car. Her last ride as a preschooler.

Poor Grumpy was always at work when her mommy started school, but he got to enjoy his Mattiebugs first day.

The obligatory pose at the door step picture!

"Lolo! Wait! I have to bow."

Mommy filling out last minute paperwork, but Mattie May just can't wait to get started.

Officially a school girl!

Showing her teacher and teachers aide her "flashy" backpack.
(it really does have lights that flash in it!)

Getting started. Writing her name on the top of the page.
Her Teachers
Mrs. Torres and Ms Sarah (in green).
She looks happy to me!

You say to me "But you mentioned tears and tissue. We don't see either!"
I never said Mattie May shed a single tear!
Mom on the other hand had a hard time.
She didn't want any proof, but I tried!

I know every one's first days (M & K) weren't quite what they were hoping for, but I know things will get better. Here's to this school year being the best ever!

All is well

Today Frank went in for his one week check up from his surgery. Good news and bad of course. Good news is he is healing very well. He is still not having any pain. The doctor told him to stay home another week then three weeks of light duty when he goes back to work.

And that is also the bad news. Another week off for him and I think I may have to take him to the funny farm! He is not one for sitting around and doing nothing. It is driving him crazy that he can't do more. Even with satellite TV he is at his wits end. Even the fishing channel is getting boring to him! Since this day is almost over, I reminded him he is now only looking at four more days!

Today Mattie May went for her first ever Meet the Teacher. She was so excited. She is ready to start school (Pre-K, but she doesn't want to go to day care! LOL). I just love the honesty of children but we really need to work with her on her manners! She told one mom, who is pregnant, that she is fat! Oh My! I think we will have to have a brush up on our manners tonight over dinner!

I am expecting tears in the morning, but I am prepared! I bought a brand new box of tissue... for Katie! Yes, she will be the one shedding tears in the morning, not Mattie May!

Frank and I will get to be in on all the 1st day activities so I hope to post some pictures tomorrow after my mom's eye surgery! So for today - Happy first day of school to you!
