Mattie May's Merry Musings - Halloween Addition
After we went to visit Granny, so she could see Mattie May in her costume, we headed over to trunk or treat. It was a lot of fun and met up with some friends of ours. Then we went home so she could go visit our neighbors then we handed out candy. I think she enjoyed that more than she did actually going herself.
She kept us laughing all night long. She wanted to play a game (Candy Land - how appropriate for Halloween!) while we waited for trick or treaters to come to our house. Frank sat in the front room watching the UT game so we went to the back to play! Every time he would tell her someone was coming, she would grab her tiara and run down the hall shouting "Customers, customers, we have customers!", all the while trying to get her tiara on while she ran!
One time, Frank called to her that some were coming and she got to the door before they actually got in our driveway. She leaned her head on the glass door and started saying "Waiting, waiting, waiting." Then when she could finally see them, she shouted "There they are" like they were long lost friends or something, those blue eyes just gleaming.
During half time, Frank came out to join us and she decided they were going to play football. Frank told her we didn't have a football to play with and her reaction? "Yes we do Grumpy!" as she threw the imaginary ball to him! They played for about fifteen minutes before the alligator in the neighbors shrubs ate the ball. Then she was back on the front porch with me.
But Frank and I agree that the funniest thing all night was a visitor we had show up. A black cat! We have cats come up all the time, but this was the first time for this one. We don't like them hanging out on our porch and making it home, so Frank would come out and shoo him away every time he walked up behind us. Well this just cracked Mattie May up so she started watching for this cat. When she would see him, she would motion to Frank through the glass that he was there and Frank would come out and shoo him again. Well of course the poor cat would run out of there like cats do and for some reason this would have Mattie May laughing. She would actually lay on the porch holding her stomach laughing until tears ran down her cheeks!

Fair Results
Well, the fair has come and gone and we had a great time each time we visited which I must say was three more times than I intended. Our entry results were not what I had hoped for and I know I should be thankful for being able to enter things. It's just sometimes I wish I had a better idea of what the judges were looking for.
I walked away with five ribbons. I will post what I won later because I don't remember everything (old age catching up with me!), but I do know I won five and the best was third place. Maybe I will do better next year.
Mattie May received a "Participant" ribbon on her bulldog she entered and was excited to see it in the display. Of course Grumpy and Lolo were a little disappointed for her. Let's just say some of the entries seemed to have a "little" help being made! I just don't believe in this. If the child is going to make it, let them make it. I will tell you the story of a Christmas ornament contest Katie entered one year. It's a great story and a huge confidence builder.
This week we are busy getting ready for our trip to Del Rio. EXCITED!!! Ready to see some friends I haven't seen since last year! And hoping we fish well and have lots of fish to weigh in! Maybe we'll even win this year! That would be great!
So until next week sometime!
God Bless You All

Fair Time!
I can not believe that it is time for the West Texas Fair. Time just goes by so quickly. I got all my entries in this year, the most I have had in a while. I was so excited to see there is a Digital Scrapbook category now. I entered our vacation book I made earlier this year. Hope I do well. I will let you all know if I won anything.
It was a bit difficult for her to understand that we would have to leave it there for a week, but she was finally OK with that. What she was most unhappy with was the fact all the rides were there and we wouldn't let her ride them! It took a minute but she did get in the car so we could come home.
To all my friends and family with entries, I hope you all do well and I can't wait to see all your entries!
God Bless you all!

Blueberry - Banana Pancakes
I didn't title this as a Mattie May's Merry Musing because it is something she did rather than said, but to us it was cute all the same!
Sunday after church, Mattie May and Katie came over before we went to see Granny. We decided instead of lunch we would fix us a nice breakfast. Well of course Mattie May wanted pancakes. She always wants Blueberry pancakes because that is what is pictured on the front of the box. So I cheat and keep blueberries in the freezer. Frank and I had gone to the grocery store on Saturday so I had some fresh bananas.
Katie started the sausage, Frank was getting the drinks and dishes, Mattie May and I were mixing up the pancakes. We had already measured all the ingredients and she was mixing it all up. I went to the freezer to get the blueberries and Mattie May told me she was going to do the banana. Without any of us looking at her, I explained that she could peel it but that I would have to cut it up because she knows she can't use a knife yet. About the time I finished my sentence and was turning around to go back to help her, Katie gasped and I saw Mattie May laying the banana peel to the side at the same time saying "Oh?! OK Lolo".
We all got tickled when we realized she had put the whole banana in the batter! She was upset because she thought we were all mad at her, but we all started laughing and she was OK. We sliced up the battered banana, poured out some pancakes on the griddle and she got to add the blueberries and banana.
All was well with the world.
