Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Well here it is, December 23. I still have lots of shopping to do and even more wrapping seeing as how what I have already purchased is still in bags and not wrapped. I have a luncheon to go to today with friends I worked with for years and they still invite me to the Christmas lunch. They are so sweet!

I know you have probably already read my post about my ornaments and the one about my favorite angel. Yesterday, I posted about Christmas cards past and I am pretty sure most of my family and friends have received our 2009 addition Christmas card. So today I am going to share with all of you the same.

I was really proud of Mattie May. She selected who she wanted to dress up as again this year and her heart is so full of the season. Last night we were talking about Santa Claus coming and how much fun it is going to be to see if he brought her the three things she asked him for (what do you think?). But then I asked her if that was the most important thing about Christmas and her answer almost made me cry. Now I am going to paraphrase, but remember she is only 3 (if only for another 12 days!

MM - "No Lolo, the important thing is Jesus. This is when he was born."

Me - " where does he live now?"

MM, pointing to her heart - "Here Lolo. He is with me all the time."

She knows and understands, she really does! So without further ado, please enjoy!

Merry Christmas to you all! God Bless your new year!

2009 Addition of the Mixon Christmas Card

WOW!!! December 22! Where has the year gone! We have had a great year, with some bumps in the road but still great all the same. God has blessed us again, way beyond what we could ever deserve.

God is good, all the time! All the time, God is good!

I don't think I have bought a single present for anyone other than Mattie May, so I still have lots of shopping to do. This has just been one of those years when I couldn't get it all together. I have reminded myself several times that if it doesn't get done, that it is OK. Getting it done is not what the holiday is all about. We did finally get the Christmas tree decorated. You can check out this post to see some of the ornaments that adorn our tree and if you want the story of my favorite ornament, check out this post.

We also have been busy getting our Christmas cards out. Oh the fun we had doing this one. We have friends that start asking about our cards as early as September! I never dreamed when I sent out that first card in 2006 that they would be such a hit with family and friends, but we are so happy they are. One of our very sweet friends (the wife of one of Frank's co-workers) has made a frame that she puts out each year with all of the pictures in it! If you want to see the previous years cards, start with this post, then look here to see last years card. I have been running late this year getting them out and actually ran out of pictures. I have ordered some more, so those of you that are new to my list, please be patient. You will get one but it may be a day or two after Christmas day!

I'm sorry, but no sneak preview this year! I will tell you, Mattie May has really taken interest in decision making process and this year she chose to go back to the "Reason for the Season"! She is just such a light in our lives: she can make the gloomiest day bright!

Hopefully I will get it all together and have a new post tomorrow! Until next time - God Bless you all!

My Scraggly Little Angel

Earlier this week, I posted this about my favorite ornaments. I also said that if anyone wanted the entire story of this scraggly little angel...

and why she was my favorite, that I would tell you. WOW! Who knew so many would be interested (thanks Julie!)! So for all of you (Julie), here is the story.

Katie was in the third or second grade (I forgot to add the date to the ornament) and her elementary school was having an ornament contest. There were no divisions or categories, just make an ornament, register it with the secretary, the teachers would judge and award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. That simple. A homemade ornament and try to win a prize out of say, 250 students! No big deal, right?

Katie had never really been interested in crafts, but she wanted to make something to enter. I asked someone for suggestions and they gave me this bread dough recipe that would be easy for her to do. I ran it past her and she thought that would be great. How else could she get away with making a mess in the kitchen and get to use paints at the same time? So she went to work.

Now a lot of you may not know, Katie has a really difficult time finishing things, especially if it had anything to do with school. Luckily, this project went pretty fast. I put all the ingredients in the bowl but she had to do the rest until it was time for the oven, and then of course it is safety first. While she kept squishing the mixture between her fingers, I found everything in the kitchen I thought she could use to make her ornament; rolling pin, cookie cutters, garlic press, anything. Once the dough was all mixed she really went to work, rolling cutting shaping; she did it all by herself. Once she said she was done, I put it in the oven to bake.

It didn't take long for it to get hard and ready to come out of the oven, and once it was out she could hardly wait for it to cool before she started painting. Again, I found anything around she could use to paint; brushes, toothpicks, combs, I wanted her imagination to take off. It didn't take her long to get finished, remember she has a very short attention span. Once the ornament was finished, I sprayed it with a glitter sealer and she hung it on our tree until the day she was supposed to turn it in.

My grandmother usually took her to school, but that morning I had made arrangements to be a little late to work so I could help her with her entry, and I am so glad that I did. I went in the school with her to help her get her little angel registered. When we walked in the front door, she stopped dead in her tracks. There were so many ornaments on that tree in the front foyer. She looked up at me with big crocodile tears and said "Momma, they are all so pretty. Take mine home because it is so ugly." My heart sank. Yes, there were a lot of ornaments on that tree. Not only was the tree almost full, but ALL of the ornaments looked like they had either been made by the parent or that the parent had paid a professional to make them. What could I do?

I leaned down to my baby and said "Honey, you have worked so hard on this and you did it all by yourself. I want everyone to see what a beautiful angel you have made me to put on our tree at home. Let's get it on this tree until I can come back to pick it up." She agreed and we got it registered and hung on the school tree.

The teachers did their judging and the prizes would be given out the Friday of the Christmas parties. It was a long wait that week for the results. But it ended up to be well worth the wait. Katie not only one 1st place, they gave her a special best of show prize. I couldn't believe it! That little scraggly bread dough angel won!

That afternoon at the party, the principle pulled me aside and thanked me for not making that ornament myself! "Parents want so badly for their children to do well, that they end up taking over. We could tell that Katie worked very hard on that angel ALL BY HERSELF! Yes she did.

So in the end, we learned a very valuable lesson about following the rules, honesty, and doing your best no matter what. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Ornaments

I have seen several of my bloggy buddies showing pictures of their homes all decorated for Christmas and some of their favorite items. Well since I don't decorate my entire house, I decided to show you some of our ornaments.

We have ornaments that commemorate our child's birth,

And now the birth of our grandchild.

There are ornaments that tell us of homes we have visited,

and when we purchased our new home,

and where our home and heart are.

You will find ornaments that let you know someone likes to hunt,

and loves to fish,

and that most of the time we fish together.

We have reminders of crafts made when Katie was a child and starting to learn crafts,

and that Mattie May is following in that tradition.

Katie has a pretty extensive collection of memories of her favorite movie,

and reminders that Mattie May is beginning to form her own opinions on movies.

There are Santas of all sizes

and shapes.

And of course it wouldn't be Christmas without angels on the tree

and one on top to make it complete. If you look deep into the branches, you'll find one that reminds us of the blood He shed on a different type of tree.

But of all the ornaments, no matter how big or small, shiny of dull, this angel is my favorite. It reminds me of a time I had to push my daughter to do something out of her comfort zone and how we all learned a valuable lesson in honesty and character.

So that is our tree.

If enough of you ask, I will tell you the story of the scraggly little angel you see above. I promise, it is a lesson everyone can learn from!

Merry Christmas!

Mattie May's Merry Musings - Christmas Tree

Yesterday, my dear sweet husband finished all the outside Christmas decor and moved inside setting up the Christmas tree. He got all the timers set up and everything looks great other than the fact that it is now my turn to get all the ornaments on the tree and finish with the decorating.

About the time he was finishing setting up the timer on the tree, Mattie May walked in.

"Oh Grumpy! It is so pretty! But where all the presents?"

"Santa will bring them when your asleep on Christmas eve."

"Oh yeah. I forgot." and she walks out of the room.

Such a silly willy! But ya' gotta love her!

Mattie May's Merry Musings - Halloween Addition

We had a great day today, Halloween. We ran errands all morning, had lunch, carved pumpkins, and went Trunk or Treating (seems to be the going thing these days), handed out candy to trick or treaters, had a bath and snack and went to bed. Mattie May was a trooper all day. All we had to do was to reminder her if she acted nice she would get to get all dressed up and shamelessly go trunk to trunk asking people for free candy! She also let me off easy on the costume this year. She wanted to be a pink princess and had all she needed to dress up in her dress up trunk, so no sewing for me.

After we went to visit Granny, so she could see Mattie May in her costume, we headed over to trunk or treat. It was a lot of fun and met up with some friends of ours. Then we went home so she could go visit our neighbors then we handed out candy. I think she enjoyed that more than she did actually going herself.

She kept us laughing all night long. She wanted to play a game (Candy Land - how appropriate for Halloween!) while we waited for trick or treaters to come to our house. Frank sat in the front room watching the UT game so we went to the back to play! Every time he would tell her someone was coming, she would grab her tiara and run down the hall shouting "Customers, customers, we have customers!", all the while trying to get her tiara on while she ran!

One time, Frank called to her that some were coming and she got to the door before they actually got in our driveway. She leaned her head on the glass door and started saying "Waiting, waiting, waiting." Then when she could finally see them, she shouted "There they are" like they were long lost friends or something, those blue eyes just gleaming.

After we finished our game, she wanted to go set on the front porch to wait for "customers" to come. It was a nice night so we didn't have a problem with that. When the kids would come up, every time she put the candy in their bags she would say "I present you, and I present you..." This went one for several "customers" and Frank and I just couldn't help but laugh along with the other parents. Maybe because she was a princess, but I really don't know where she came up with that.

During half time, Frank came out to join us and she decided they were going to play football. Frank told her we didn't have a football to play with and her reaction? "Yes we do Grumpy!" as she threw the imaginary ball to him! They played for about fifteen minutes before the alligator in the neighbors shrubs ate the ball. Then she was back on the front porch with me.

But Frank and I agree that the funniest thing all night was a visitor we had show up. A black cat! We have cats come up all the time, but this was the first time for this one. We don't like them hanging out on our porch and making it home, so Frank would come out and shoo him away every time he walked up behind us. Well this just cracked Mattie May up so she started watching for this cat. When she would see him, she would motion to Frank through the glass that he was there and Frank would come out and shoo him again. Well of course the poor cat would run out of there like cats do and for some reason this would have Mattie May laughing. She would actually lay on the porch holding her stomach laughing until tears ran down her cheeks!

October was a fast month and we had lots of fun things to do. I made a short scrapbook of our month. Hope you enjoy it!

Fair Results

Well, the fair has come and gone and we had a great time each time we visited which I must say was three more times than I intended. Our entry results were not what I had hoped for and I know I should be thankful for being able to enter things. It's just sometimes I wish I had a better idea of what the judges were looking for.

I walked away with five ribbons. I will post what I won later because I don't remember everything (old age catching up with me!), but I do know I won five and the best was third place. Maybe I will do better next year.

Mattie May received a "Participant" ribbon on her bulldog she entered and was excited to see it in the display. Of course Grumpy and Lolo were a little disappointed for her. Let's just say some of the entries seemed to have a "little" help being made! I just don't believe in this. If the child is going to make it, let them make it. I will tell you the story of a Christmas ornament contest Katie entered one year. It's a great story and a huge confidence builder.

This week we are busy getting ready for our trip to Del Rio. EXCITED!!! Ready to see some friends I haven't seen since last year! And hoping we fish well and have lots of fish to weigh in! Maybe we'll even win this year! That would be great!

So until next week sometime!

God Bless You All

Fair Time!

I can not believe that it is time for the West Texas Fair. Time just goes by so quickly. I got all my entries in this year, the most I have had in a while. I was so excited to see there is a Digital Scrapbook category now. I entered our vacation book I made earlier this year. Hope I do well. I will let you all know if I won anything.

But I do believe the most exciting thing was Mattie May got to place her first entry in the fair. There is one category for Pre-Beginners in the Youth Hobbies and Crafts. She entered George, a ceramic bulldog she painted for me at Christmas. Here is a picture of her turning in her entry.

It was a bit difficult for her to understand that we would have to leave it there for a week, but she was finally OK with that. What she was most unhappy with was the fact all the rides were there and we wouldn't let her ride them! It took a minute but she did get in the car so we could come home.

To all my friends and family with entries, I hope you all do well and I can't wait to see all your entries!

God Bless you all!

Blueberry - Banana Pancakes

I didn't title this as a Mattie May's Merry Musing because it is something she did rather than said, but to us it was cute all the same!

Sunday after church, Mattie May and Katie came over before we went to see Granny. We decided instead of lunch we would fix us a nice breakfast. Well of course Mattie May wanted pancakes. She always wants Blueberry pancakes because that is what is pictured on the front of the box. So I cheat and keep blueberries in the freezer. Frank and I had gone to the grocery store on Saturday so I had some fresh bananas.

Katie started the sausage, Frank was getting the drinks and dishes, Mattie May and I were mixing up the pancakes. We had already measured all the ingredients and she was mixing it all up. I went to the freezer to get the blueberries and Mattie May told me she was going to do the banana. Without any of us looking at her, I explained that she could peel it but that I would have to cut it up because she knows she can't use a knife yet. About the time I finished my sentence and was turning around to go back to help her, Katie gasped and I saw Mattie May laying the banana peel to the side at the same time saying "Oh?! OK Lolo".

We all got tickled when we realized she had put the whole banana in the batter! She was upset because she thought we were all mad at her, but we all started laughing and she was OK. We sliced up the battered banana, poured out some pancakes on the griddle and she got to add the blueberries and banana.

All was well with the world.

Mattie May's Merry Musings - Batteries

Back in December 2006, I came across the cutest Nativity set. It is Fisher Price's Little People. It was so cute I knew my Mattie May just had to have it. She was almost a year old and I knew she would be wanting to get into the Christmas decorations and this was something that she could play with without getting into trouble. She enjoyed it so much, we decided it needed to be left out of the other decorations so she could play with it year round.

She loves that little set. She plays with it more than any other toy she has. And she loves to tell the story of the birth of "Baby Jesus".

The manger has a place on the top to put the angel and if you press down on the angel, the star lights up and it plays "Away in a Manger". In Mattie May's case, it doesn't have to be the angel. It can be Mary, the donkey, anything. I think baby Jesus himself has made it up there on more than one occasion. That's OK. She knows the story and I believe in leaving her imagination alone, letting her be creative.Last week, she was sitting below Frank's recliner playing away with this set. She pushed the button on top and the song started playing. It was OK at first, but as it continued it slowed, making that funny dragging sound that songs tend to make as the batteries are running out. Those big blue eyes looked up at Grumpy and she said "Gumpy, I think sometings wrong." He explained that it needed new batteries. I told them I thought I had some that would fit.

She followed me to the kitchen with her manger. I asked her to hold the batteries while I unscrewed the cover. I reached down and asked her for the batteries. She pulled them back and said "I want to do it!" By this time Frank and Katie were standing there with us and one of us explained that we needed to put them in right or it wouldn't work. Again she looked at us all with those big ol' eyes and said..."Lolo, I can do it! I match the plus with the plus and the minus with the minus!"

Well! OK then! And she did! Then as she handed it back to me to put the cover back on she says "See! I told you I could do it!"

How did she even know?! She's three!

Not All Superheros Wear Capes

Yesterday, Katie and I made a quick trip to Ft. Worth. Not for shopping, not for visiting, not for going to the zoo. No, this trip had one goal - The Apple Store.
Remember this post, my peaceful Monday turned manic, and when Katie's iPhone shattered? Well, here is a picture of said phone...

Not pretty, I know. I called the iPhone people to see what procedures I was to follow and did so to perfection and waited patiently for that little email that told me what was to be done about her phone. That email never came. Instead we got her phone back in the same packaging I had sent it to them in, only with an additional note that said they had determined that the shattered screen was because the phone had been dropped. If it had been dropped, I promised it hit the ground no where as hard as my jaw did when I read this. My heart just sank. So Katie and I decided to take it to our local AT&T store to see if there was anything they could do.

Several people in the store looked at her phone and all asked the same question - "How did this happen? You can see the phone has not been dropped." Ugh! We know that! Unfortunately, even though no one believed the phone had been dropped there was nothing they could do. It has to be handled through Apple. The closest store is in Ft. Worth. They also told us to make an appointment before we go because they usually don't have any openings for walk in customers. (Excuse me? Why do you even have a store in the strip mall then?)

So Katie takes all the information they have given her and goes online to make the appointment. The earliest appointment is on 12:20PM, Thursday August 6, two weeks later! Oh My! I take off work so she doesn't have to make the trip by herself and to help her plead her case.

Thursday morning, we get Mattie May to day care, stop at Sonic for some breakfast and LARGE sodas and head east. Before we leave the house, I plug the address of the Apple store into A.B. (our GPS) not because I can't head east on I-20 and find Ft. Worth, but so we don't have to try and follow the map to the Apple store.

We arrive at 11:00 AM, an hour and a half early. They won't even let us put her name on the list and we have to go next door to try to find a public restroom (remember the LARGE sodas from Sonic! LOL) Next door is William Sonoma and Pottery Barn, two stores I have only read about but have never entered, but they have a wonderfully clean restroom and I have fallen in love! And now I know they are only two hours and twenty four minutes from my house! Because we were having so much fun looking at everything, I set the alarm on my phone for 11:50 AM to get us back to Apple in plenty of time and hopefully back on the road a bit sooner.

Katie checks in at about 11:55 AM and her name immediately shows up on the wait screen as #10, not to bad. We start looking around to see what wonderful things we can only dream about owning and Katie looks up and her name has already moved to #7. I continue my text to Traci about all the wonders of this store that she needs to avoid at all cost (LOL) and some one behind us asked "Katie, what do you need help with?" It's Patrick!

This is Patrick...

He is the person that will be helping us. Katie begins telling him the whole story about how the phone shattered as she starts pulling it out of the box. He takes the phone from her and immediately says "I can tell this phone hasn't been dropped. Stay right here and I will be right back." He takes her phone and disappears behind a blue door. The next time we see him he is standing behind one of the computers at the back of the store and waves us over.

There on the counter in front of him is ....

HER PHONE!

He has replaced the screen and because she had the phone for such a short time when this happened, there is no charge! That's it, done repaired, no tears needed (this sort of disappointed Katie), all smiles and we are ready to go!

PATRICK! OUR HERO!
(If you can't read his shirt, it is the same as the title of this post! And as far as we're concerned, he is a superhero!)

My biggest question is, why couldn't the place I had to send the broken phone into have done this same thing before they sent the phone back? It took him all of five minutes to do this. We did enjoy the trip though. We rarely get to just go anywhere just the two of us any more. And we did find two favorite new stores (Frank won't be so happy about this come Christmas), but for such a simple procedure, why? Oh well. Katie has her phone and the world is at piece now! LOL

Mattie May's Merry Musings

It was just Mattie May and I at the house one night last week. We laid in the bed watching "Special Agent Oso" and when it was over, I turned off the TV, we prayed, I told her a story and she drifted off to sleep - so I thought.

I got up a little later to do some things around the house and check some things on the computer. I had been on the computer for quite a while, when I hear her little foot steps on the floor. "Lolo, I hungry" she says to me as she goes to fridge and gets lettuce! "Will you fix me a salad?" A SALAD!?

"May May, do you really want a salad?" I asked her.

"Well, maybe just a sandwich."

"OK May, what kind of sandwich?"

"I want a sandwich with bread, peanut butter and maybe can I have a little bit of jelly?" she says as she wrinkles her little nose and shows me "little" by pinching her thumb and index finger together.

I make her the sandwich as I hide my laughter. When finished I asked her if she wanted it cut.

"Yes! Can I have triangles? Four, I want four triangles!"

No one ever said this kid wasn't specific in her request!!!

It Started out a Nice Peacful Morning...

I started writing this Monday afternoon but am just now getting around to posting it. Just wanted you to know so you didn't think I left my laundry for a week!

This morning I was looking forward to a little down time before Mattie May got here. I had planned on making our room reservations for tonight, eating a little breakfast and starting the laundry from the weekend. Nothing terribly hard and should have been finished quickly.

Katie, Mattie May and I are going to Dallas tonight to go to the zoo in the morning. Frank earns points for staying at a certain hotel when he is out of town on business so we have points for us to use when we go on leisure travel. Now I have made reservations on line many times as I am sure most people have. This is not a difficult task. As they say on "Special Agent OSO" "three simple steps"! Pull up the web site, fill in the arrival information, get confirmation number. Super simple. Unless the web site wont take your credit card information!

It told me it couldn't take my card and to try again later. I fixed my bowl of cereal for breakfast, sat back down and tried again. Same thing. It is at this point I get a little concerned because I know there is no reason my credit card should not be accepted. So I got my other one that we use for emergencies, knowing for sure it is OK and the same thing happens. I try again. Thinking there is a problem with the web site, I start looking for the number to customer service to get this fixed. I get a nice young man on the phone and explain my problem and in the process of giving him our information he tells me someone else will have to help me because we are club members and he puts me on hold.

I put it on speaker phone so I can at least start a load of laundry without holding the receiver to my ear. While starting the laundry, call waiting beeps in. It is Katie telling me she is almost to my house. I click back over just in time to hear someone on the other end. Not only does she have a very heavy accent and I can hardly understand her but it sounds like she is just barely whispering. By this time Katie and Mattie May get there. Of course Mattie May is talking up a storm and this makes it really difficult to hear the girl. I explain to the girl she is going to have to do something so I can hear her. She takes my number and calls me right back. Katie gets all of Mattie May's things out of the car. Mattie May starts crying because her mom is leaving. (it's not that she doesn't want to stay with me, she just doesn't want her mom to leave and she smushed her toe on the table).

So now I have a crying three year old and this girl on the phone trying to help me with reservations. About this time, my door opens again and it is Katie bringing me her iPhone. Excuse me - her SHATTERED iPhone! Some how in the two minutes from when she called me to the time she got back in her car, the glass on her iPhone cracked.

Now I have a crying three year old, the girl on the phone I can hardly understand and an upset 25 year old on the edge of tears trying to figure out what to do with her phone. And now call waiting is beeping at me again. It's Frank. He is just checking to see how my day is going. How sweet! Not good Frank. I will call you in a bit. It is about this time that my Internet provider's service goes down, so now I can't even look at what the customer service girl and I are talking about!

Get back on the phone with customer service girl and she tells me that there are five charges for my room. Oh wow! Not really what I wanted to hear. She has to go get her supervisor. Luckily this gives me a minute (or 20) to get Mattie May settled down a little bit more, get her something to eat and start her favorite Disney shows.

I think I am on hold for about 20 to 30 minutes this time and she finally comes back and tells me they have manually made my reservations and that the charges will be removed in three to five days and if any additional charges incur, they will also cover those.

Calm begins to settle in my house. But now I have to call customer service to take care of the broken iPhone! Thankfully, this customer service person spoke where I could understand him! So I thought all was well... but then we leave to go on our trip! That is an entirely different post!

Mattie May's Merry Musings

I have decided to start logging the cute things Mattie May says to us that we hope we never forget. I guess you could say I actually started this last week when I posted this. But I wanted to give them a name so that in my old age it would help me remember what to look for. If you can think of a cuter name, I am open for options.

Saturday we went to my dad's cabin at Lake Cisco to celebrate Independence day. This is a yearly event, this year there were about 30 people there. It is usually more but some had other obligations that kept them from being there.

We spent the day fishing, watching Mattie May and Katie swim, and of course eating. The day was capped off with a fireworks display done by some of the younger men in the crowd and other families all around the lake. It is always a lot of fun.

After the fireworks, we started the 45 minute drive home. This is usually not a bad trip, but Mattie May had a late nap and was wired. I was concerned that her movie would not keep her occupied. Well I shouldn't have worried. We had a fireworks display all the way back to Abilene. Cisco, Putnum and Clyde all had displays that we could see along with personal shows I sure being put on by family and friends just as we had. The fireworks stands on either side of the interstate were putting on great shows just as we pulled into town.

Frank and I kept asking Mattie May if she had seen them. Of course she had and would respond with "Oww, that looks like Christmas (red & green), That one was big, That one was loud," and so one. Just about the time we were pulling into Clyde, Frank asked her something about one of the fireworks and her response -

"Grumpy, you know there's a burn ban right now!"

So matter of fact and like he had any control what soever about all the fireworks. But funnier than that - does she even know what a burn ban is???

Interesting Concept and a Chance to Win!

I love reading Octamom's blog. Our lifestyles are completely opposite, but she gives me a look into what it is like raising eight children. Yes you read that right - eight! A big difference from my one!

She is having a give a way on a book that I would like to share with someone very dear to me and I thought you might be interested in said book. So pop over to this site and see what you think.

What She learned Today

This is one of those post with a long story before I get to the actual cuteness so please bear with me.

Mattie May has been attending her first Vacation Bible School this week. It has been wonderful. This year the title is "Paul and the Underground Church". The entire church has been transformed into ancient Rome with a marketplace, a coliseum and of course an underground church.

Tonight's theme was "God's Love is With You All the Time". It was great. I love hearing these little voices lifting praise to God in song and verse. If you ever get the chance to visit a VBS, do it. These kids will work miracles on your heart.

On the way home tonight, I asked Mattie May what she learned. "That God's love is with me all the time." WOW! She was paying attention! Next I asked her what would make God take his love away from her. "ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!" was her reply. I thought this was so cute, my little three year old granddaughter learning the truth in such a simple way. So I asked her if I could record her when we got home so I could keep this precious little piece of time for posterity. She said "Sure" in her cute little MM way.

We get to their apartment and Katie is there to meet us. When she takes her out of the car seat, I tell her we need to record something, thinking this would be a good way for Katie and Buddy to see her cute and honest answers. The recording follows and I must say, it was not quite what I expected...

I guess next time I need to be a bit more specific when I ask her to do something for me!!!!

I Woke Up in the Real World This Morning!

Vacation is over and I had to come back to work this morning. Oh, don't get me wrong. I have one of the best jobs ever and I love it. I work with great people and have a wonderful boss. But anyone would agree with me, vacation is so much better! All weekend, Frank and I have tried to figure out how we could stay on vacation, traveling, fishing and doing all those things we love, but still get the same pay checks that we get each month.

Oh well, at least we both have jobs we like and have retirement to look forward too.

I have been editing pictures all weekend and will be getting my scrapblog together soon. I hope you all have a great week, and if you ever figure out how we can get paid without working, let us know!

A Quick Hello

Hello from beautiful Galveston Island, Texas! The weather is hot but the fun is great! Traffic was terrible on Monday but the rest of the trip has been wonderful. Late lunches both days and late naps as well.

As I type, Mattie May is still asleep. We have spent the day at Moody Gardens. She has enjoyed the fish and penguins at the aquarium, walked with the dinosaurs at Dinos Alive exhibit and we finished our day there with a ride on the Colonel, an old paddle boat. Then lunch with elephants and gorillas at Rainforest Cafe.

When she wakes up we are going swimming then to play miniature golf at this cute place down the seawall.

Can't wait to share my pictures with you all!

God bless you all.

IT'S FRIDAY!!!

Yes it is, Friday is finally here! This has been a very long week. But if you look at my counter at the top you will see we will be gone on vacation for awhile. I will try to post some while I am gone but I am planing on having so much fun that I won't have time to post.

So don't miss me while I am gone, but pray for us to have a safe and fun trip! I will certainly have pictures for you when I return!!!

Bitter Sweet

Yesterday was a very bitter sweet day for me.

The sweet - my baby turned 25! I can't believe that Katie is a quarter of a century. It seems she should be about Mattie May's size, being her silly self and passing out her special love to everyone she would meet.

The bitter - I attended the memorial for my boss's 25 year old son that died over the weekend from a drug overdose. He was such a sweet and loving young man that could just never find his place in life. He will live in our hearts forever.

I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes!

If you have ever read my fishing blog (here), you know I don't like snakes! Oh, they just make my skin crawl!

Well, I don't like spiders either! Yesterday morning, one decided to join me in the shower. I didn't notice him at first, but you know how you feel like someone is watching you? I got that feeling. I reached up to move the shower curtain to make sure it was closed good and it almost jumped on my hand. Oh it just creeped me out! He just sat there and stared at me. Frank was still asleep and I knew he would not be real happy with me if I screamed so I tried to find something to kill him with. But every time I tried, he moved. So I just finished up real quick and got out of there.

When Frank woke up I told him where the spider was and he went in to take care of him. But he had moved! I just knew I would find him when Frank left for work so he kept looking for him. When he finally found him he killed him for me. Now I don't make it a practice to kill spiders, they just need to stay outside where they belong, not in my shower!

Frank was still a little upset with me because I didn't kill him, but this thing was HUGE! I am not kidding. It was a giant. Now Frank will tell you that it was about the size of the spider on the left, but I am telling you it was as big as the one on the right. Who are you going to believe? C'mon now, I have never lied to you before!

The Prettiest Smile Ever

My little baby girl just came to see me. She had been to the dentist to get her new teeth!

Even though she could hardly open her mouth, and there was still a lot of blood and a lot of healing to do, that was absolutely the prettiest smile I had ever seen! Thanks to everyone involved in getting this problem resolved!

I'm Still Here

I have been neglecting this blog! It is partly because I have a life! But I have also been up to some new adventures, planning our vacation, keeping up with the flower garden and enjoying Mattie May.

Nothing really new or exciting going on. We will be going on vacation next moth so maybe that will give me something to blog about. We are all well and blessed beyond belief.

OH, do keep Katie in your prayers for the next few days. She will be getting her new teeth tomorrow! She will be able to smile again without embarrassment. Buddy will be taking care of her and I (we) will be taking care of Mattie May. You know they had to twist my arm to agree to that. I will have pictures of her smile as soon as I can.

I pray God to bless you as much as He blesses me daily.

Lolo, It Sorta Cwushed

First I have to apologize to Traci. Sorry you are hearing about this through my blog, but it is just to late at night for me to call you and tell you what happened.

Traci and Tim gave Mattie May a Tinkerbell snow globe. Mattie May, like most kids her age, is fascinated with snow globes. She loves them. And this one isn't just a snow globe. It's really big! About 12" tall. It can be turned on and a fan blows the snow around and music plays. It really is cool. And it's Tink!

Well, it was having problems tonight and wouldn't work. It has brand new batteries so I knew that wasn't the problem. I put it to the side and told her Grumpy would have to look at it when he got home. He is the repair guy after all, not me!

We went on about out business, and I forgot about the snow globe. I had stepped into a different room for just a minute and I hear Mattie May call me. The conversation went a little like this -

MM "Lolo?"

Me "Yes Baby?"

MM "It's sorta cwushed!"

Me "What?"
That's when she brought me this and said "It's sort of cwushed, Lolo!"
Yep! It's sort of crushed!

It Seems Like Just Yesterday.

Tonight we went to the Western Heritage Classic parade. It seems like yesterday that we just went and I used this opportunity to use this parade as the subject of a new craft I was learning, digital scrapbooking. Man ~ time really does go by faster the older you get!

It was much shorter than usual, but that was a blessing since Frank went with us this year and because it was so hot today! My car read 104 when I got in it at 5 and I had left windows down! Man - I dread to see July and August if it is already this hot in May!!!!!
Frank and I scheduled our vacation time today. We were both able to get the days we requested on our first try. That is usually pretty easy for me, but Frank has more people to coordinate with. Now we just have to decided where we want to go. Mattie May wants to go back to the beach so to the beach we will go. We are trying to decided between Corpus Christi (where we went last year) or Galveston. I worry about Galveston because it has not even been a year since they were hit with Hurricane Ike. From everything I read on the internet, they are ready for tourist. If any of you out there have visited Galveston lately, let me know how it was.
I hope everyone is having a blessed week and I wish all you Mom's out there a Happy Mother's Day (just in case I don't post again before Sunday)!

This Really Made Me Mad!

Please watch this news segment that aired on CBS' The Early Show Monday morning.

Watch CBS Videos Online

What are your thoughts?

I first want to say that no one is saying there is not an obesity problem in America! This is something that is on most of our minds on a daily basis. It is a problem and parents need to do everything they can to help their children correct the problem. Eating right and exercise are the best places to start.

The idea that selling nice clothes in large sizes to help a girls self esteem is a bad idea is beyond me. Lets do everything we can to help these kids. Even if it includes making fashionable clothing in sizes for tweens, teens, and younger ladies. Who does she think she is calling it the "fat" section?! She also says this isn't about fashion - Excuse me?! That is what this segment is about, fashion!

I think selling clothes in such small sizes is a bad idea! Lets teach our children that you have to be a Size 0 (I don't think that is even possible) so they have some severe eating disorders. I know very few girls that can were these tiny sizes, including my daughter! She is stick thin and still wears a size 7. Nothing wrong with that! She looks great! How about not selling clothing for people who are not as tall as all those models out there also! Isn't there a special section for that?

I think this person in this interview is rude and a fat hater! Just listen to her. I don't think she lives in the real world. Someone who has never had a weight struggle can not understand the problem. They think you can just quit eating! They think you are lazy! If you listen to what she says about what to keep them from eating, you know she has never had a weight. It makes me wonder if she has a child.

Yeah Emme! Way to hold your composer and your tongue. And you look great by the way!

They Want How Much?

For you first time readers (I am sure I have SO many), or for those of you that live under a rock and don't pay very much attention to me, I live in Texas and am very proud of that fact! I am about as Texan as they get. And so are most of my family and friends. We don't think much of the way we talk and live until we are talking to some foreigner (Ooops, sorry. For you non-Texans, those are people in another state not another country!)

And Saturday night, my friends and I got a real good laugh out of talking to one such person!

Frank and I had gone to fish a tournament at O.H. Ivie. We left Saturday to spend some time with friends. It was late, about 8 (Hey, that's late when you have to get up early!) and we were giving Nina our breakfast order for Sunday morning when one of our friends came in asking if anyone had something to open up a locked truck. Uh oh! Someone (not sure who) had inadvertently locked the doors when they got out and the keys (including the spare) were inside the truck! Oh, my heart really did go out to them because any type of vehicle trouble is just a pain! A big ol' pain in the side!

Luckily, someone did have a tool that is supposed to pop that lock right open. I guess if you used it on a daily basis, you could do this. Not if you use it only once every year or so! I think there were about eight of us standing around in the parking lot watching the excitement (it doesn't take a lot to entertain a bunch of tired anglers!).

After about 30 minutes, I remembered I have roadside assistance on my cell phone. So I call. Have any of you out there tried to give an address at a lake to someone who is several states away from you? Not an easy task. Especially if you are out in the middle of no where! It all started easily enough -

He - "Roadside Assistance. How may I help you?"

Me - "We have a truck with the keys locked in it."

He - "Oh, no problem. I can definitely help you. Wow! Sounds like you are having a party. What is your cell phone number?"

Me - "No party, just a bunch of anglers after a long day. My number is 3##-###-####"

He - "Is this Mrs. Mixon?"

Me - "Yes."

He - "Are you with the vehicle that is locked out?"

Me - "Yes."

He - "Are you in a safe location?"

Me - "Yes." When what I really wanted to say was "it all depends if this going to take long? Will it make a difference in time?" which I will regret not saying later!

He - "What type of vehicle?"

Oh, my - this goes on forever! By the time we get to the address, he could pick out this vehicle from a line up! And what exactly does the color and rear wheel drive have to do with the keys being locked in the ignition?

Several questions later, just to make sure it is me on my cell phone, he asked me - "What is the address where you are located?"

So now the fun begins! Me - to David "Hey, what's the address out here?"

David - "### FM Road ###, Millersview, TX"

Me to operator - "### FM Road ###, Millersview, TX"

Typing and long pause...

Operator - "Um, Ms. Mixon. I'm sorry, but there is no Millersview, TX showing on my map"

Me - "Where are you?"

He - "I'm in western Kentucky."

Oh no! We are going to be here all night!

Me - "OK. Can you pull up just a town?"

He - "Yes."

Me - "Try Valera."

He - "No"

Me - "Voss?"

He - "No"

Me to everyone standing around - "Is there anything closer than Ballinger that might show up on his map?"

Everyone - "NO"

Me to operator - "Try Ballinger."

He - "Yes, here it is."

Me - "Can you see landmarks on your map?"

He - "Yes."

Me - "Do you see O. H. Ivie Reservoir?"

He - "YES!" (ok, I mistakenly think we are getting somewhere.)

Me - "Do you now see Millersview?"

He - "No, but I see a Leeday!"

Oh My!

Me - "How old is your map?! Leeday has been underwater ever since they finished the dam in 1992! But! We are about two miles south of that!"

He - "Would you happen to be on Park Rd. 11?"

Me to David - "Are we on Park Rd. 11?"

David - "Yes" (Cheers from the crowd!)!

Me to he - "Yes"

He (laughing) - "Sounds like you are having a great party."

Me - "No. No party. No one has had a drink! Just a bunch of anglers ready to get to bed!"

He - "Now that we know where you are, give me just a minute to locate someone to come help you."

Lovely music starts in my ear, and we are discussing the odds of them getting the lock popped before he even gets back on the phone. Glad I didn't get in on that because...

He - "Mrs. Mixon, I have located someone in Coleman that can be out in about an hour and half and it will be $75.00 out of pocket."

Me - "I thought this was covered as part of my roadside assistance?"

He - "Only up to $50.00."

Me - "You mean to tell me that some yaw-who is going to take an hour and a half to drive the 15 minutes from Coleman then charge us $75.00 for two seconds worth of work?"

A few seconds of stunned silence from the crowd, then a bunch of "We can push him down there by hand if we have to... $75?! Are they nuts?" and lots of other useless comments from the crowd.

He - "Sounds like a really good party."

Me - "I told you, no party! We are just tired from a long day and we have another long day tomorrow!"

He - "Of partying?"

Me - "NO!! No parties! Just fishing! Thank you for your time and please update your map!"

And we found a guy in Ballinger to come out for $50 and he was there in 45 minutes! Man! Am I going to have a chat with AT&T!

On my Soapbox

I just saw an add for Abercrombie & Fitch.

Can someone please tell me what a man with no clothes on sitting on a park bench with a pretty girl (fully dressed, thank goodness) laying next to him has to do with selling jeans? I just don't get it!

Fast Week

Man last week past in a hurry! Not much happened during the week, just work and the regular daily grind. Nothing exciting but nothing to worry about either.

Friday I got off work early so Frank and I took Mattie May to the zoo. Then we headed to Abuelo's (my fav) for an early dinner so we could hit the sack early. We had to get up at 3:30 yes that's AM!) for a fishing tournament. You can read about that here, Just an absolutely beautiful day. I really hope you got to enjoy it.

Sunday was church then home to fix brunch. No unexpected visitors this week, just Buddy, Katie and Mattie May. Buddy and Katie had a birthday party to go to so Mattie May stayed with us and took her nap. Even though it was extremely windy, we tried to get some family pictures made of them. Between the wind and the three year old we didn't have much luck. Still it was a great day and weekend.

Hope you have a great week.
OH, and tomorrow is Frank's birthday and I still don't have him a gift or card! Any suggestions?

Easter with Edith

What a wonderful weekend we had. Friday, Frank and I spent the day with Mattie May not doing much of anything. We did some laundry and our grocery shopping and ended the day with "brown" pizza at Brick Oven Pizza. I'm not sure about the brown pizza, but when we asked Mattie May what she wanted, she said "Brown pizza!" She ate very well and was very well behaved at the restaurant, so I guess she was happy with hamburger, black olive, and mushroom pizza!

Saturday was "Eggstravaganza" at church. We took Mattie May and there was a very good turn out even with the overcast skies and the cooler (cold) weather. She made out like a bandit on the egg hunt and enjoyed the inflatable slide and jump box. Not sure what it is called, but you have all seen them, they inflate and the kids get inside and jump.

We all attended church service on Sunday then headed out to my Aunt Hymonda and Uncle Bill's for Sunday brunch. We usually have a great lunch for family gatherings, but because so many were out of town on Saturday for LTC (Leadership Training for Christ) we decided brunch was just fine. Even though our friend Sarah had written a fantastic article on us for the Reporter News that ran on Wednesday, we went against tradition. The article told about what our family traditionally does for Easter lunch and ran most of our recipes. It was very well done and exciting to be a celebrity for the day. Many of our friends and family saw the article and called to let us know they had seen it.

After eating, Buddy and Katie hid eggs for Makaley, Kauy and Mattie May to hunt. The day was glorious, warm with just a light breeze. Then we all headed inside to visit and enjoy the rest of the day.

And who is Edith? Good question. We still really don't know who she is! Thursday after the article had run in the ARN, Hymonda got a call from Edith who said she was a friend of one of Mattie B's long lost relatives and had seen us in the paper and just wanted to tell us how nice the article was. Hymonda was gracious and thanked her and hurried about her busy day. That same day, Mattie B received a call from Edith. The conversation was about the same. Neither thought anything else about the phone calls.

We were finishing up our brunch Sunday and Trina saw someone walking up the drive. Hymonda asked us who it was but none of us recognized her. She rang the bell and Hymonda answered with a very confused look on her face. It was Edith! She had come to join us for lunch. Hymonda explained we had not done the lunch this year and had just finished up brunch. Well, Edith said that was fine with her, asked where Mattie B was and continued on in the house!

At this point, all of us in the dining room were being very quite so we could hear the conversation in the kitchen/breakfast area where Mattie B was sitting. We couldn't see her face, but we could hear the tone of Mattie B's voice and she was a little stunned to say the least. Edith told her since neither she nor Hymonda had invited her when she called on Thursday, she just decided to just invite herself!

One thing you can not call my family is selfish. We let her have anything that was left (which I must say wasn't much) and we "enjoyed" her stay. She stayed and visited with Mattie B for a while after she ate and then just left - seriously, she just got up and left, not a word! It was one of the strangest things we ever had happen and we will now remember this Easter celebration as the one we had Brunch with Edith!

I hope God blessed you this past weekend as He did us.

She Like to Move It Move It!

Mattie May loves music. And she loves to dance to that music. She gets so excited to be out somewhere and hear a song being played that she recognizes. At the Abilene Ruff Riders game last night she just squeeled when they played "Life is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts. If any of you don't know that is one of the songs they play in the Disney movie "Cars" one of her all time favorite movies (can you have an all time favorite movie at three?).

Later in the night they played the move it song from "Madagascar" (sorry, I don't know the actual name or who sings it.). She really got excited this time and jumped out of her seat and started to dance. Frank and I (and everyone around us) got so tickled watching her. I was only able to get a short video and I just have to share it with you.

ENJOY!

WWW (What a Wonderful Weekend)

As usual the weekend was just not long enough, but it was nice. Of course Frank got home Friday from Boston and we spent time that night going through all the give aways he collected at the conference and all his pictures. I have started his scrapbook for this so I will have it posted as soon as I can.

Saturday, he decided to fish the Stillwaters tournament over at Hubbard and I stayed home, watched a couple of movies, did some light house work and started on Katie's dress.

Sunday, Frank took Kauy to the Spring Jamboree at UT. I messed up a little so they didn't get to attend the Kids Club pizza party, but they still had a good time. I went to church in the morning then Mattie May and I took a nice nap. Sunday afternoon, we went to Makaley's TLC practice then to the grocery store. And last night to bed at a decent hour.

So not to eventful for me anyway, but a nice relaxing weekend. God is so good to us.

He's Home!

Yeah, Frank made it home from Boston, eighteen hours late, but HOME! He had a great trip. The seminar was great. He learned a lot, met a lot of people, and even won a 47" plasma TV! Yep, out of the thousands of people that were there, he won a TV. They are even paying the shipping to get it to our house! And just think, our front room TV went out a few months ago we just hadn't found the right TV to buy. The funniest part of the whole thing, is I won the TV that we are replacing about 15 years ago at a United Way luncheon.

He was supposed to be home yesterday, but they canceled his flight and couldn't get him on another one until today, so he got to do lots of sight seeing yesterday. He even got to pose with a Boston Red Sox World Series ring! He can talk himself into anything! He took lots of pictures for me and has been telling me stories of his trip all evening long. He did a lot of things that were totally out of character for him (like taking pictures everywhere!) and had such a good time, he wants to take me up there for vacation! Don't have to twist my arm!

I am so glad to have him home and giving praise to God for getting him there and back safely.

Is That My Great Grandmother?

First this is not a post about President and Mrs. Obama, they just happen to be in the picture. As a matter of fact, they are the reason this picture was even taken.

Secondly, the only copyright tag I found for this picture is REUTERS/John Stillwell/Pool (BRITAIN BUSINESS POLITICS ROYALS) so I hope I am giving the proper credit so I don't get in trouble for copyright infringement.

If you live in America and listen to any type of radio, TV, anything that might talk about current events, I'm sure you know that President Obama is at the G20 Summit in London. As part of this event, he and Mrs. Obama visited with Queen Elizabeth at her home, Buckingham Palace. And of course, to appease the masses, there were photos taken of this historic event.

Look at the picture below. Aren't they all lovely? Each smiling for the camera, just like they all rehearsed. No really it is a lovely picture. I would not disrespect the President or Queen by making fun of them. BUT this picture does make me laugh. Can you figure out what it is? If you know my grandmother or knew my great grandmother, you should easily figure this one out.

Do you get it, do you see what is making me laugh?

OK, I'll give - They are in Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth's home. So please tell me, why does she need her purse in the picture?! Hahah, heehee, hoho! I am so sorry but that just tickles my funny bone!

Sandwich

1sand·wich

Pronunciation: \ˈsan(d)-ˌwich, ˈsam-; dialect ˈsaŋ-\
Function:
noun
1 a: two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between b: one slice of bread covered with food

Mattie May has gotten into the habit of getting herself a "little snack" before we leave for school in the mornings. I don't mind because she is still eating a good breakfast when she gets there so no harm done.

This morning I heard something rattling in the kitchen and went in to check. She was standing on her little pink stool and had her arm completely inside the bread bag. "I gettin' son bread" she tells me and I'm OK with that and continue to get ready to get out the door.

On our way out, she is still eating her bread and I notice she has more than one piece. I ask her "Mattie May, whatcha eatin'?" Those big blue eyes look up at me and she sweetly says "A samdwich."

"What kind of sandwich?" I ask as I take a closer look.

"A bread samdwich!" Yep, she has a slice of bread "sandwiched" between two more slices of bread!

Life is so good!

Please, Don't Ask Me Questions - Just Pray!

There is something going on in my family that I am not ready to talk about. Many of you know some of the things we have been through and have been lifting us up to God in prayer. Please continue.

I know He will take care of things and I know He is taking care of it as I write. I just need prayers. I need prayers that I can accept what He gives us because it is what we are supposed to have. When I am ready, I will talk, but for now, just pray for all of us!

I Love Parodies

I am not a fan of a lot of the music the younger generation listens to these days. Man that makes me sound old, but I don't know how else to say it.

For some reason a while back, I saw a video of Beyonce's song "Put a Ring on It'. It was one of the most excruciatingly painful things I have seen for a while and could not bring myself to watch the entire three and half minutes of it. Thank goodness we live in a free society and I could turn it off.

Today, I came across this video of the same song. Still three and a half minutes, but I was hooked. I thought it was so funny and I hope you do too.

I couldn't embed her actual video, which really didn't disappoint me, but I wanted you to see it if you hadn't already. Let's just say, the gentleman in this video are dressed for a blizzard compared to what she and her dancers have on in the actual video! I am sure her momma is so proud!

So Boring

I have absolutely nothing to blog about!

It is Friday - Yeah! A weekend coming up with nothing planned. Maybe I can catchup on some of my Scrapblogs that I have also been neglecting. Maybe Frank will take me to the pound to look for a puppy. My house needs a dog, I can't stand it without one. Maybe I will clean my house. I don't know about this, it might put my hubby into shock!

One thing I do have planned is church on Sunday. I have missed the last three weeks so I will have to go around reintroducing myself to everyone.

Have a great weekend and maybe, just maybe, something exciting will happen and I will actually have something to blog about that is worth reading.
